[It takes Rawne some scrounging to find the candied ginger, but he shows up with that and a thermos of black tea eventually. He knocks on the door.]

I'm here. Let me in.

[threedontknows]

[Nie Huaisang opens the door to his cabin, all dark, carved wood and rice paper paintings, and smiles brightly.]

You found it! Come in, come in!

I did.

[He looks the room over as he walks in, holding out the thermos and the ginger.]

I like yours over Jin Guangyao's. His is very... gold.

That would be the Jin aesthetic. The Nie Sect likes big carvings and empty halls.

[But that’s not Nie Huaisang’s style either. He has the Nie furniture, the carved, dark furniture and little plants, but his room is airy and light. It feels like a well-loved home.]

[He takes the thermos and gestures to the low table and pillows on the floor.]

[Rawne looks at the pillows, then shrugs and sits, folding his legs awkwardly under him.]

So your from two different... schools?

Kinda.

[He sits down a little more elegantly and opens up the package of candied ginger, offering his warden one.]

We're divided into sects, or clans, and each sect has a different way of growing and finessing their magic. The powers are similar, just not the methods. Or the way the sects behave.

[Rawne takes the piece of ginger and nibbles on it. Huh. It's good.]

Oh, like the noble families back home. Well, we didn't have magic, but there was a lot of political maneuvering.

[He indulges in a piece of the candy and smiles a little; it tastes like home.]

As much as I wish I could, they always reappear.

Is there much political strife on the Barge? I want to know so I can avoid it. Politics are boring.

Political? Not much. Interpersonal? All the time. Lots of drama.

[threedontknows]

[Hmn. That's a little more intriguing. And easier to manipulate for his own purposes.]

You can find a lot if you backread on the Network. Henry went home recently and came back with monsters. Also, I got drunk as hell and basically propositioned everyone on board.

There are, if you find the right people. I was just drunk and missing my boyfriend who left, that's all.

[He hadn't realized he'd get that horny when he drank.]

I have to graduate an inmate first, or else I won't get my deal. I'll go see him eventually, but it'll be a while.
